About

The former Karibu Community Garden is now Haven Community Garden!

The Karibu Community Garden was created in 2010 by a group of families from various parts of Africa. As life took these families in different directions and to different cities, the garden stayed behind and in need of a caretaker. Eventually, the garden was taken over by a local non-profit, Hopeprint. Amy Tao Woodley volunteered with Hopeperint for 7 years, with some of her time as a volunteer spent in the garden. When Hopeprint decided to undergo a reorganization of their role in the community, Amy and her husband Mike were asked and agreed to take ownership of the garden.

Amy and Mike will be running Haven Community Garden as a not-for-profit community garden and learning space. Working as a family alongside key volunteers Cindy Chapman and Melanie Burdick, they plan to develop the garden in a way that best serves the community. Haven Community Garden hopes to promote food security, nutrition education and access to green spaces. Haven Community Garden will be growing an assortment of plants for distribution, teaching and facilitating various wellness workshops and providing community members hands-on experiences in the garden.

The Haven Community Garden Team hopes the garden is able to provide a place of peace and refuge and act as a haven in the midst of a bustling urban environment. We are always looking to make connections and add volunteers to our crew! Please reach out if you are interested.
